The properly treated cotton is flame retardant which is then used in mattresses, upholstered furniture and some carpets. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, boric acid is an odorless, inorganic safe product to use. However, it can be toxic if misused. It is never to be ingested and must be kept away from children at all times. Be sure to always wash your hands and surfaces thoroughly after using it.
